Manhattan Theatre Club is pleased to announce guests and dates for After Words, the popular discussion series at the Biltmore Theatre, 261 West 47th Street.

After Words is part of MTC’s continuing effort to deepen and enrich the play-going experience for its audiences. Held after selected Saturday matinees at the Biltmore Theatre, this exciting series of talks with writers, cultural critics, journalists, and members of the COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA cast and creative team provides provocative and illuminating insights into the political, cultural, and artistic contexts of the work MTC produces at the Biltmore Theatre.

Featured Panelists

JACKSON R. BRYER is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he taught courses in American literature and dramatic literature for 41 years. He has been the director of the conference segment of the annual William Inge Festival in Independence, Kansas, for the past 20 years; in 2007, he received the Festival's Jerome Lawrence Award for Distinguished Service to the Festival. Among the books on dramatic literature he has edited or co-edited are Conversations with August Wilson (2006), The Art of The American Musical: Conversations with The Creators (2005), The Facts on File Companion to American Drama (2004), The Actor’s Art: Conversations with Contemporary American Stage Performers (2001), The Playwrights Art: Conversations with Contemporary American Dramatists (1995), Lanford Wilson: A Casebook (1994), Conversations with Thornton Wilder (1992), Selected Letters of Eugene O’ Neil (1988), and Conversations with Lillian Hellman (1986). He is the co-editor of Selected Letters of Thornton Wilde, to be published in October 2008 by HarperCollins.

JIM MAHAN is playwright William Inge’s nephew and executor of the Inge estate. Jim’s mother, Lucy, was Inge’s older sister. Mahan, who was raised in Toledo and New Jersey and graduated from Lehigh University, was a partner and president in a company involved in the sale and fabrication of fiberglass products until he retired in 1994. Mahan has spoken on numerous panels about his uncle at the Inge Festival and elsewhere.

PETER ELLENSTEIN. Since 2001, Peter has been the Artistic Director of the Inge Center for the Arts in Independence, Kansas, home of the world-renowned William Inge Theatre Festival. For seven years he was Producing Director of the Los Angeles Repertory Company, where he directed the acclaimed Los Angeles Premiere of Sondheim and Weidman’s Assassins. Peter has worked in theatre across the country from Los Angeles to New York, San Diego to Minnesota and Florida to Alaska. He has worked as a consultant with the National Endowment for the Arts, California Arts Council, Kansas Arts Commission and Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation.  He served on the Governing Council of the Association of Theatre for Higher Education (ATHE), is a former Board Member of Los Angeles Stage Alliance and the Southern California Arts Coalition.  Peter has taught theatre classes for the last 25 years, and gives workshops for students and professionals regularly throughout the country.  His union membership includes: Actors Equity Association, Screen Actor Guild, and Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. As an actor Peter appeared in dozens of professional stage productions and had numerous appearances on film, television and radio. His father is actor/director Robert Ellenstein and his brother, David is Artistic Director of North coast Repertory in Southern California. Peter holds an MFA in Theatre from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
